Scholarship Ministry

 

Bright Hope Baptist Church Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to Bright Hope members attending two or four year accredited colleges, universities or vocational schools. Qualifying students must be members of Bright Hope and an active member of one or more ministries in thechurch. Students must show proof of acceptance and attendance by submitting rosters or official transcripts. Students attending as freshman must provide high school transcripts as well as proof of enrollment in college.

Dr. Leonard W. Johnson Memorial Scholarship  
Scholarship awarded to a Bright Hope member attending a two or four year college or university (graduate or undergraduate)majoring in any of the healthcare fields/disciplines. Students must submit an essay of no more than 250 words explaining why they should be considered for the award in addition to submitting the documentation listed above for the Bright Hope Scholarship. Essay should be appropriately labeled and attached to the scholarship application.

Edie Huggins Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to a full time student pursuing a four-year college degree and/or a career in nursing or related studies; must be an active member of Bright Hope Baptist Church with a G.P.A. of at least 3.0. Required documentation is outlined in Bright Hope Scholarship description.

Ernest Wright, Jr. Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to a full time student pursuing a four year college degree pursuing a vocational/technical degree; must be an active member of Bright Hope with a G.P.A. of at least 2.5. Required documentation is outlined in Bright Hope Scholarship description.

Dr. William H. Gray, Jr. Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to a high school senior pursuing a four year college degree; must be a member of Bright Hope Baptist Church with at least a 3.2 G.P.A., an SAT score of at least 1000, and currently active in a Bright Hope Education related ministry in addition to the documentation required for the Bright Hope Scholarship, applicants must submit a personal statement on the theme, “How my faith and religious teachings have impacted my education and career goals.” Essay should be labeled attached to the scholarship application.

Karen D. Chesson Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to a graduate or undergraduate student pursuing a degree in any major or discipline. First preference will be given to students in medicine or health disciplines, however ALL majors may apply. Students pursuing non-traditional fields may also apply (Trade School, etc.). Candidates must be an active and respectable member of Bright Hope Baptist Church, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and an SAT score of 900 or higher in addition to the requirements for the Bright Hope Scholarship.

Parker Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to a full time matriculating junior or senior undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in a healthcare discipline; must be an active member of Bright Hope and maintain a G.P.A. of at least 3.0. A 500 word essay stating your reasons for selecting a career in the healthcare field and how your education will impact the population you plan to serve is required in addition to documentation listed in the Bright Hope Scholarship description. Essays must be typed in Arial 12 pt font and double spaced. Essay should be labeled and attached to scholarship application.

Michele N. Parker Striving for Success Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to a single mother pursuing a four year degree in one of the following disciplines: Psychology, Education, Communications (Theater, Music, Public Relations, Film and Media Arts, Journalism), Business, Criminal Justice, African-American Studies or Sociology Sciences. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, be accepted into a college or university (MUST submit an acceptance letter with application), three letters of recommendation (one of which must be from a ministry leader where the student has served for at least a year and service can be verified), HS or college transcript, and a 750 word essay on why they should be selected to receive this scholarship. There is no age stipulation. Essay must be typed, spell-checked, 12 pt font double-spaced and creative. Only Bright Hope Baptist Church members are eligible to apply. Required documentation is outlined in Bright Hope Scholarship description. Essay should be labeled and attached to scholarship application.

Leroy W. Clark Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to one male and one female full time student matriculating at an institution of higher education; must be an active member of Bright Hope Church. In addition to submitting the documentation listed above for the Bright Hope Scholarship, candidates must submit an essay of 250 words or less on the topic “What I plan to do with my degree that will help my surrounding community.” Essay must be labeled and attached to the scholarship application.

Dr. E. L. Clark Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to college sophomore or upper class member (including medical school) matriculating at an institution of higher education. Student must be majoring in a medical or health related discipline. Student must be an active Bright Hope member. Required documentation is outlined in Bright Hope Scholarship description.

Mrs. Ann B. Clark Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to a high school senior active as a Bright Hope member. Scholarship is open to all majors. Eligible candidates must submit a 500 word essay on the theme Legacy. Required documentation is outlined in Bright Hope Scholarship description. Essay should be labeled and attached to the scholarship application.

Robert and Edna James Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to an active Bright Hope high school senior or college student attending college. Candidates must have a GPA of 2.5 or better. Candidates must submit a 500 word essay on the topic Why Education is Important. Required documentation is outlined in Bright Hope Scholarship description. Essay should be labeled and attached to the scholarship application.

Myrtle Jackson Campbell/Barbara Campbell Harris Memorial Scholarship
Two (2) Vocational Scholarships awarded to a vocational high school or vocational post-secondary student who has accepted Christ and has been a member of Bright Hope for at least 3 years. Student must be serving in one or more ministries at Bright Hope. Student must maintain a 3.0 average or better and must be studying for a trade, technical or vocational career. Required documentation is outlined in Bright Hope Scholarship description.
